Food for families

“Without those food donations, Christmas Day would have just been another day where I would have been struggling to put food on the table. Instead I could give my kids a special Christmas,”

About Food for Families

Christmas is supposed to be a wonderful time of year. But for many people, particularly those experiencing illness, violence, homelessness or crisis, it can be the most difficult time of all.

Food for Families is our annual food collection appeal. In 2018, the appeal aims to bring in an unprecedented 60 tonnes of non-perishable food and household essentials, to help meet the growing demand for support across the community.

When people are experiencing crisis, food is often the last priority. By donating food through Food for Families, you’re showing them that someone cares. Sadly, with the cost of living in Melbourne rising and availability of affordable housing at an all-time low, the demand for food relief across Melbourne continues to increase. Unexpected bills are now the top reason for food insecurity in Australia.

That’s why we need to collect even more food than ever before, to ensure we can help every single person that comes to us for support.

When you give to Food for Families, you are providing comfort to people experiencing hardship. Once people are supported with their immediate needs, we can then focus on empowering them for brighter days ahead.

When it comes to giving, the little things mean a lot.

Get together to help people in need

Register your workplace, school, community organisation or family and friends with Food for Families and get together to fill boxes and bags with non-perishable food and household essentials.

Once your bags and boxes are full, you can drop them off at one of our many convenient locations across Melbourne. Or a collection can be organised through one of our partners.
